You are a creature of habit—for better or for worse. According to a 2006 Duke University study, at least 40 percent of everything you think, feel, do or say is habitual. We can almost hear the protests. Not me! I’m aware of my behavior. Everything I do is well thought-out and purposeful. Well, not so fast; the evidence says otherwise. You may think your actions are conscious and intentional, but in fact much of your life is habit. You, like virtually everyone else, are largely living your life on autopilot, following your script, and responding much the way you’ve always responded. Habits can be good or bad. Your “automaticity” can underlie either a life of well-being or a life of stress, frustration, and disappointment.
However, even though much of your behavior is scripted and automatic, you needn’t be discouraged. Learning mindfulness skills for personal mastery and well-being is a game changer. You can develop a discipline of being conscious and intentional. You can take charge of your habits and the choices behind those habits. You can cultivate mindful awareness, consistently make positive choices, and literally rewire your brain,

We’ve had a very successful psychology and consulting practice for over three decades, but we don’t have a typical client. Some of our clients have high anxiety. Some are depressed. Some have relationship issues. Some struggle with addictions. Some are dealing with food and weight issues. Some have workplace stress. Some are creative people who feel stuck. Hello. We're Bill and Robin Shearer and our lifelong mission is facilitating growth and change in others. Mindful Choices Training has proven to be an ideal vehicle for personal transformation to well-being, and the perfect coaching tool.
Several years ago we developed two programs for transformational change. We call our method "Mindful Choices Therapy" for behavioral and mental health issues, and "Mindful Choices Training" for life coaching, coaching for well-being, and executive coaching/leadership development.
This website is devoted to Mindful Choices Training and our coaching services. For information on "Therapy," go to www.calmchoices.com. The difference between "Training" and "Therapy" lies in the fact that therapy involves mental health issues, a mental health diagnosis, and health insurance. Training on the other hand, is about life coaching, coaching for well-being, executive coaching and leadership development. Health insurance and a diagnosis do not apply. Should our coaching clients require medical or mental health services we will refer to qualified healthcare professionals.
Central to our program is training in mindfulness skills, systematic training in moment-to-moment self-awareness, a vital component in making lasting changes. You can't change anything you're not aware of, and most people lack awareness as to the extent their emotions and habits dictate their choices. The "choices" part of Mindful Choices Training refers to the fact that moment by moment, we all have Choices in how we respond, and we can learn to respond consistently with awareness and emotional intelligence – in the "now," in the present moment. The "Training" part of Mindful Choices Training refers to the systematic development of solid positive habits leading to optimal well-being and personal mastery.
Life coaching is a really efficient way to step back and systematically question and challenge your own assumptions, figure out what your life is really about, and have more balance and enjoyment. It's about getting clear on what you want, rather than what others want for your or from you. It's finding meaning in your life.

The email you enter when creating an account will be used as your login ID once the account creation process is completed. Once you have entered your email I will be notified of your request to join my network. As soon as I accept the request you will be sent an email which will allow you to choose your password and setup your account. The account setup must be completed before you can attend a video session.

Connecting your iDevice is possible by following these steps.
Do you have a laptop, desktop PC or Mac which is 3 years old or newer?
Older devices may struggle to run the program properly.
Is your space equipped with a modern internet connection that is reliable?
Connecting directly to your router using an ethernet cable for wired internet is recommended though wireless networks can work fine as well.
Have you downloaded Chrome or Firefox to your computer to use as your internet browser?
Standard browsers such as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge or Safari on a Mac may encounter compatibility issues with the video software as those browsers are not as up to date with modern code.
Do you have access to a working webcam?
Most modern laptops have built in webcams which will work great for online therapy! If you have a desktop PC or Mac you may need to purchase and set up an external webcam.
Are you comfortable navigating computer software?
The online portal is easy to navigate and does not require any training to use. However, those who find computers to be confusing or frustrating in general may not be a good fit for online therapy.
